There are a lot of textbooks I like--this is definitely not one of them.The headings through make the book seem like it covers a lot of useful material. Don't be mislead, the content is terrible. I kept getting the experience that I would read a paragraph, and realize I had no idea what I had just read.The reason for this revealed itself in the example problems. Shriver works through a problem, and all you see is his arithmetic. No explanation of which equations he's using, what variables he's filled in with given data, nothing. I already know how to add/subtract, the inorganic chemistry is what I'm trying to learn--show me that!
Used this book for a graduate level inorganic course. Informative but not the best book available on the subject. It was the first semester my professor used this book and she was quite disappointed and often gave us handouts from other textbooks. Also, the chapter on symmetry is not very well written.The illustrations however, are very good which is why I gave it 3 stars rather than 2.

The book is in okay condition. The pages are okay, some wrinkled, but the cover is beat up and very worn down at the edges, and also kind of dirty. Was expecting much better quality as it was listed in good condition.
Really pleased it works very well. It is just what I was looking for thank goodness.
Chemistry is not easy period. I am giving this book a higher score then normal because of the professor I had helped a lot with interpreting the course, He had a doctorate in inorganic chem. studied coordinate chem. he purposefully broke up the sections of the book in different orders, which helped a lot, and split this class over 2 semesters; first half started with straight structures, learning all the crystalline forms coordinate chemistry, periodic trends, finishing off with the acids and bases. from their we finished the book pretty closely following the remaining chapters in order. Again the professor made a huge difference but maybe look at the chapters out of order, or brushing up on gen chem kinetics and redox reactions may help as well.
It's okay. Used Housecraft as a supplement.
